Up-Flo® Filter

Up-Flo® Filter

Advanced, High-Efficiency Stormwater Treatment

The Up-Flo® Filter is a high-performance stormwater filtration system that combines sedimentation, screening, and filtration to remove sediments, nutrients, metals, and hydrocarbons. As the only fluidized bed up-flow filter in the industry, it delivers efficient treatment at high flow rates with extended filter media life. Developed with the U.S. EPA, it meets stringent stormwater regulations and offers customizable configurations to suit site-specific needs. Its compact design, high pollutant removal efficiency, and low maintenance make it a cost-effective solution for advanced stormwater treatment.

How It Works

  1. Stormwater enters and fills the chamber, with flow directed upwards through an angled screen and filter modules.
  2. Trash, debris, and sediment settle in the sump while oils/floatables rise to the surface.
  3. Treated water flows out of the filter modules to the outlet module and pipe.
  4. A siphonic bypass discharges excess flows while preventing oil/floatable escape.
  5. After storms, water drains through a filtered port to avoid pollutant leaching between events.

Benefits

  • High Removal Rates: Up to 98% TSS removal for particles >20 microns
  • Multi-Stage Treatment: Pretreatment, screening, and filtration in one unit
  • Space Savings: Higher loading rates enables a smaller footprint
  • Low Maintenance: No moving parts, long media life, easy media replacement

Applications

  • Industrial/commercial sites, source control, sediment/hydrocarbon control
  • Nutrient/heavy metal removal, wetlands protection
  • Low-impact development, sustainable drainage, LEED, WSUD projects
  • Water quality treatment, stormwater detention systems
  • Sites requiring high pollutant removal rates

Key Performance Attributes

  • Targets: Fine sediments, trash, hydrocarbons, heavy metals, nutrients
  • Up to 98% TSS removal for mean 20 micron particles
  • Verified/approved by NJCAT, NJDEP, WA Ecology, VA DEQ, CA Water Boards, and others
