ABT Trench Drains

Trench Drain Systems for Effective Water Management

A trench drain system is an elongated drainage solution designed to efficiently remove excess surface water from an area through a drainage channel covered with a grate. Positioned just below the ground, these systems come in various styles and materials to cater to diverse needs. Trench drains, whether cast in place or pre-cast, offer durability and reliability, ensuring a prolonged lifespan for commercial properties.

After installation, a trench drain is covered with a grate that serves two key purposes: preventing debris and large objects from entering the drain, and protecting vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians from accidental contact with the trench. Grates are available in a variety of materials, including cast iron, ductile iron, galvanized steel (zinc-coated for rust resistance), and stainless steel with decorative perforations.

Selecting the right grate ensures both structural performance and visual appeal. Choose a material and design that aligns with your required load class and aesthetic preferences to create a complete and effective trench drain system.

  • Factories – manage water drainage and potential chemical spills.

Pre-Cast vs. Cast-In-Place

Pre-Cast Trench Drains

  • Pre-cast trench drains are crafted using concrete in a factory setting, ensuring precise measurements of width, height, and depth.
  • This method offers advantages such as controlled climate conditions for optimal curing, resulting in a stronger trench drain.
  • Special additions like coloring can be seamlessly incorporated during the manufacturing process.
  • The transportation of pre-cast drains to the installation site introduces additional costs and risks associated with concrete transportation.

At Jen-Hill Construction, we offer polymer concrete pre-cast trench drains, reinforcing them with additional binding materials for enhanced strength, increased resistance to chemicals, and higher thermal stability.

Cast-In-Place Trench Drains

  • Cast-In-Place trench drains are also made of concrete but are created on-site.
  • The trench is excavated, and concrete is poured into forms with reinforcing bars.
  • Although labor-intensive, cast-in-place trenches are highly accurate since they are formed directly where they will be used.
  • Unlike pre-cast drains, they offer limited variation and customization, require no joints, and eliminate the need for transportation and lifting machinery.
