Challenge
Aspire Park in Clinton, Tennessee, is one of the region’s most inviting community destinations, where open fields, woodland trails, and carefully curated natural landscapes create a setting for year-round enjoyment. From the beginning, the park’s mission centered on preserving a natural, green environment even as it hosted concerts, festivals, and large public gatherings. That vision created a complex design challenge. The park needed an attractive, natural lawn for everyday visitors, yet it also needed a surface capable of supporting vehicle parking during major events without damaging the landscape or disrupting the visual continuity that defined the space.
Traditional hard surfaces were never a realistic option for Aspire Park. Pavement would have broken the visual harmony of the area and introduced a permanent impervious footprint that conflicted with the park’s environmental priorities. It also would have created stormwater management burdens that the owners wanted to avoid, particularly since the park emphasized natural infiltration, open drainage patterns, and green infrastructure. The solution had to disappear into the landscape while performing like a load-bearing pavement whenever the site supported crowds.
Solution
To preserve the park’s natural character while meeting real-world performance demands, Hollingsworth Companies implemented a reinforced turf system using the GEOBLOCK 5150 Porous Pavement System supplied by Jen-Hill. Approximately 25,000 square feet of interlocking panels were installed over a carefully engineered subgrade and base, with a 1/3 topsoil and 2/3 aggregate blend designed to support emergency and service vehicles while maintaining healthy turf. o Once filled and seeded, the system remains visually indistinguishable from a natural lawn. The system evenly distributes vehicle loads, prevents rutting, and promotes full-surface infiltration, delivering both structural performance and long-term sustainability.
Results
The Geoblock 5150 System operates as a true dual-purpose landscape, maintaining a lush, continuous lawn while reliably supporting vehicles and large crowds during major events. The reinforced turf promotes full-surface infiltration and reduced runoff without compromising the park’s natural character, delivering durability beneath a seamless green appearance. For Jen-Hill, the project stands as a proven example of how engineered green infrastructure can perform in high-traffic public spaces, setting a practical standard for municipalities, developers, and designers seeking solutions that unite structural strength with sustainable, landscape-first design.
About GEOBLOCK 5150
GEOBLOCK® is the industry’s strongest and most proven, high-performance turf protection system. Addressing all vehicle loading and stormwater requirements, the GEOBLOCK and GEOBLOCK 5150 systems are engineered base material that supports loading up to HS25. They are highly permeable to maximize stormwater percolation and, with topsoil infill, offer an optimal growing medium for vegetation.
